Vortex provided a system disc with a file called PATCH.COM on it, which patched Amstrad's CP/M 2.2 so that CP/M could use their RAM expansion to get 63KB TPA.
There were also third party implementations which supported the Vortex RAM Expansion such as [[RCPM]].

Following a legal dispute with Digital Research, Vortex switched to supplying only patches for CP/M3.0. The X-Drive came with a system disc containing files called XPATCH.COM and XPATCH30.COM which patched Amstrad's CP/M 2.2 or 3.0, adding support for the 80-track Vortex disc format. The system disc itself can be modified to boot CPM 2.2 or 3.0.
